"Open Source Technologies for Geospatial Research and Development" project begins with its first activities.

Today, under the "2023/24 UNIVERSITY SUPPORT GRANT PROGRAM" by Kosovo United States Alumni (KUSA), the Department of Geography hosted the start of the "Open Source Technologies for Geospatial Research and Development" project. The project intends to offer modern open source geospatial tools and methodologies to teachers and students- https://www.osgeo.org/initiatives/geo-for-all/ for studies pertaining to geography or allied fields, as well as to improve the current geospatial field.

The project is being implemented under the direction of Ferat Krasniqi, an assistant at the Department of Geography and grant winner, in collaboration with Free Libre Open Source Software Kosovo (FLOSSK).

Today’s workshop focused on the utilization of OpenStreetMap (OSM) data and how to gather data in OSM using the ID Editor and JOSM Editor. Geography Department students participated actively in the OSM as contributors, learning the process of mapping various geographic features.
